Mission to Teach launched at Sci-Ed Expo

May 8, 2013 - The biography of Dr, Jhumki Basu, Mission to teach was launched in a exciting and emotional setting in New York with 500+ young school students, teachers, researchers and well-wishers in attendance. The event was marked by showcasing of science projects by 50 schools and other local science organizations and readings from Mission to Teach by the author, Dipak Basu.

Prof Basu receives Early Career Achievement award from Columbia Teachers College

On April 13, 2013, in a packed TC luncheon event in New York, as part of its 125th anniversary celebration, the Alumni Association of Teachers College posthumously honored Prof Sreyashi Jhumki Basu (PhD’06) with a career achievement award for her path-breaking work in Democratic Science Teaching. 

Prof Christopher Emdin, Dr. Basu’s colleague at TC who also serves on the board of Jhumki Basu Foundation, delivered a deeply personal and laudatory citation which brought the audience to their feet. Then, accepting the award on Jhumki’s behalf, her mother, Radha Basu, spoke from the heart, and the audience was moved to tears by Jhumki’s last words “There is so much left to do.”
